This summer the former Home Depot Center will once again host the Copa de Campeones and SuperCopa of Liga MX in a doubleheader extravaganza on July 16, 2017. This will be the third annual competition, second straight at StubHub, featuring the two most recent Mexican league champions as they will go head-to-head for the right to be called the champion of champions. The Super Cup will pin the last two winners of the Copa MX against each other.

The Copa de Campeones will be decided by reigning Liga MX champions Tigres of UANL against the yet-to-be decided winner of the 2017 season. Tigres boasts some major star power with an attacking trio featuring French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac, Chile international Eduardo Vargas and highly-rated Mexican winger Jurgen Damm. Los Regio Montanos are currently ninth in the standings but cannot be counted out just yet. They’ve won the Apertura in 2015 and 2016 plus this year they have a chance to hoist the CONCACAF Champions League title as they are battling Club Pachuca.

The Super Cup will be decided by Chivas de Guadalajara, winners of the 2017 Copa MX Clausura title, and Queretaro, the 2016 Copa MX Apertura champs. Coincidently Los Gallos Blancos defeated El Rebaño Sagrado in 2016 in a penalty shoot-out denying the 10-time Mexican league champions back-to-back Copa MX titles. Chivas won the 2015 edition of the Mexican Cup and have now won three pieces of silverware under Matias Almeyda.

As the Liga MX season dwindles down, a number of clubs could be in play to become the 2017 champs with Club Tijuana, Toluca and Guadalajara rounding up the top-three but once the playoffs commence, past title winners like Club America, Pachuca, Monterrey and Tigres can flip the switch.

Tickets are already available and both matches will be broadcasted by Univision and Univision Deportes.
