Orange County SC Drop Three Points at Home vs. Real Monarchs

Despite playing well late on, Orange County SC drop three points in a 1-0 loss vs. Real Monarchs at home.

The game could not have started worse for the black, white, and orange as Monarchs forward Chandler Hoffman got on the end of a deflected ball as he slid it home past keeper Charlie Lyon.

After the goal, OCSC’s play did not drop. While they weren’t creating many chances, they limited Real Monarchs offensively as they were able to keep a solid defensive shape.

Lyon had to be called upon again in the 21st minute as he made another key save off of a close one-timer in the 18-yard box.

To no help of Orange County, forward Monday Etim came off with an injury and Manager Logan Pause had to change things up tactically when he brought wide man Dusan Stevanovic in the 38th minute.

To Pause’s benefit, the change did provide a spark towards the end of half time as forward Wuilito Fernandes found some open space in the Monarch’s box but shot it wide of the target.

Then, in the 45th minute, after there was contact on Fernandes in the box, Orange County SC were awarded a penalty. winger Jerry van Ewijk stepped up to take it, but was saved by Monarchs keeper Connor Sparrow.

The second half did not start well for the home side. The Monarchs created many chances to extend their lead, but Charlie Lyon was up to the task, keeping the away side out in the 74th, 78th, and 80th minutes.

Lyon’s play inspired confidence in the home side as their forwards were linking up well. Substitutes Ami Pineda and Carlos Alvarez inspired the home side. Pineda had a chance to put his side on the board in the 77th minute as his shot hit off of the crossbar.

OCSC were able to contain the Monarchs defensively at the end of the game, but the scored stayed at 1-0.

For Orange County SC, this is their third consecutive loss. Their next game is June 14 in a US Open Cup match vs. LA Galaxy. They won’t play another league game until June 24 vs. Seattle Sounders 2.
