Los Dos Rallies to 1-1 Draw With OCSC

The first I-405 derby of the season resulted in a 1-1 draw Saturday night between the LA Galaxy II and rivals OCSC at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium.

In the first half it was the LA Galaxy II who kicked things off with a good start by penetrating the OCSC back line with off the ball runs made by Ethan Zubak, possession, and long balls sent over from the midfield and defense very early into the game.

However, as the game went on OCSC had their moments as well, as they approached with a more defensive minded mentality, anticipating to catch Los Dos on the counter attack with the speed of Duke Lacroix and the skill of Carlos Alvarez. Both teams were scoreless at the half, and looked very even in terms of dangerous play when it came close to scoring.

It was not until the 49th minute in the second half when the first real major mistake was made by Galaxy defender Jean Engola who tried to clear the ball from a cross that was sent towards the box by Roy Meeus, but took an unfortunate deflection into his own net. Minutes later, Orange County slowly found their rhythm in possession, and built up play in the attack as the tides were starting to turn.

Manager Mike Munoz realized that his team needed a spark, and made a decision to bring on Ariel Lassiter for Jonathan Estrada in the 60th minute. From there on out, Lassiter instantly made an impact, notably in the 66th minute when he struck a well-taken free kick that was saved terrifically by Lyon, but was capitalized on the rebound by goal-scorer Adrian Vera.

Later in the game, both teams were pushing for a thrilling late winner, but seemingly could not find the back of the net despite having plenty of opportunities.

In the end, both teams took away one point from the well-fought rivalry match, but will remain unsatisfied until they meet again. Fortunately enough, the LA Galaxy II and Orange County SC will meet each other next at Anteater Stadium on Saturday, May 6 in OCSC’s home opener.
