Incoming MLS franchise Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) continues to march on as they prepare for their pro debut next season followed by a growing fanbase in city that is quickly becoming the sports capital of the nation.

LAFC held a Foundation Event on Saturday at the Banc of California construction site where the club allowed its fans to write their names on the slabs of concrete where the actual stadium is being built. It’s amazing the support they have amassed since the team was first announced in 2014.

That support hasn’t gone unnoticed by the LAFC brass. During the event, lead managing owner Larry Berg praised its fans:

“Your passion is absolutely inspiring”

Owner Mia Hamm Garciaparra added:

“Without you it’s just a building, you guys are the heartbeat of this club, don’t ever forget that,” said owner Mia Hamm Garciaparra. “We need you today and everyday after to bring that passion and excitement to the stadium.”

On October 2016 LAFC announced 10,000 originals. That number has grown to 14K in 2017 as the club inches closer to its first kickoff. As of February 7, 2017, LAFC has 65.7K followers, over 56K likes on Facebook and 35.8K followers on Instagram. That’s not including other popular social media outlets such as Snapchat, YouTube, and the now-departed Vine.

In addition the multitude of fan support groups that make their presence known throughout Los Angeles events reflects the excitement LAFC fans have for their new club. Groups like Black Army 1850, District 9 Ultras, The Originals, Expo Originals and Black n Gold on YouTube to name a few continue to express their unwavering support.

LAFC had a busy 2016, their official crest and colors was revealed, their new 22,000 seat stadium commenced its construction, their U-12’s academy debuted, and they announced a partnership with USL club Orange County Blues (now Orange County SC).

General Manager John Thorrington recently announced that the club is now able to sign players which just increases the excitement. Players that are signed can be loaned out to its USL affiliate or join next season when the club officially begins its training camp.

As their inner city rival LA Galaxy has set precedent of bringing in big-name players, LAFC will look to counter the five-time Champs with the same mentality. Names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Cesc Fabregas and Luka Modric have been mentioned in the past, and more recently Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez’s name has been floated around.

One thing is clear, LAFC is picking up steam and at the rate the fanbase is growing it will be an awesome rivalry to watch with the LA Galaxy. Moreover it will be a joy to see soccer continue to grow in the United States as the MLS expands.
