The LA Galaxy II had no answers for the visiting Real Monarchs SLC at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium Wednesday night, as they were defeated 3-0 on home soil by the Real Salt Lake affiliates.
From the start of the whistle, Real Monarchs SLC certainly approached the match with a very physical presence in all areas, but more notably in the defense that the young LA Galaxy team tried to penetrate, however had trouble to do so throughout the first half from players like Ethan Zubak and Jorge Hernandez.
In the 25th minute, Los Dos defender Jean Engola tripped Sebastian Velasquez inside the box, resulting in a penalty, and eventually a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, LA Galaxy II adjusted quite well after what Real Monarchs brought to the table in the first half with steady possession, and dangerous crosses towards the box in the attack. In spite of that, it was Charlie Adams who blasted one past Jon Kempin in the bottom right corner to make it 2-0 Real Monarchs in the 65th minute just when LA Galaxy II were starting to get things going.
Shortly after, Ethan Zubak went in on a slide tackle slide towards James Moberg, and would go on to pick up a red card after already having been on a yellow. The LA Galaxy II went on to play with 10-men, and would find themselves allowing one more goal just before the full time whistle by goal scorer Karsten Hanlin, who was given a through ball in between Hugo Arellano and Ian Lonergan, and would find himself beating Kempin to finalize the score at 3-0.
LA Galaxy II will take on the New York Red Bulls II next on Sunday, May 14.
