LA Galaxy: Dos Santos Brothers Called Up For Mexico World Cup Qualifiers

LA Galaxy superstars Giovani dos Santos and Jonathan dos Santos have been called up by Mexico National Team head coach Juan Carlos Osorio for upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Panama and Costa Rica. El Tri could potentially book their trip to the big dance if they manage to win and Costa Rica loses.

Gio dos Santos could reach the century mark in international caps if he manages to earn some minutes in either match. He’s missed the last two Galaxy games with a hamstring injury which makes his call-up a bit puzzling. In addition, his form has taken a dip since he returned from the Confederations Cup where he has failed to score or provide an assist.

His goal drought is hardly worthy of a call-up but with the talent that Gio possesses he could be a game-changer if he is switched on. He’s failed to record a goal since May 27 and his club is dipping further away from a playoff spot. Nevertheless, a return to El Tri could help spark him back to form with Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Jona dos Santos will earn his first national team call-up since joining the Galaxy where he has appeared in three games, two of them being starts. His club has lost all three matches dos Santos has appeared in but is slowly getting his feet under him logging in back to back 90-minute games.

The 27-year-old has 29 international caps under him and was the standout player at the Confederations Cup with El Tri. He is one of the staples in Osorio’s base squad and will continue to do so while he is in MLS.

Both dos Santos brothers will be with the Galaxy on Saturday against the San Jose Earthquakes then fly out to Mexico to link up with the rest of the Seleccion. They will miss the match against the Colorado Rapids on September 2.
