This Saturday, Western Conference power house Orange County SC will host cross town rivals LA Galaxy II for the first “405 derby” of the 2018 season.
As usual, it’s time to break down which players are coming into this weekends’ match in good form. Here’s to name a few ahead one of many much anticipated match ups in USL soccer.
Thomas Enevoldsen – The former Danish International and recent USL Week 3 Player of the Week has been a huge asset to Orange County’s success so far into the season. He comes into this weekend’s match as OCSC’s top goal-scorer having netted four goals in the past two games. Notably, three this past weekend in the team’s 5-0 win vs. Tulsa Roughnecks FC. Enevoldsen, the veteran that he is, brings not only experience up top, but due to his excellent positioning in the attack, makes him any team’s back line their toughest threat due to knowledge on how to come up in big moments, together with, is what makes him so useful for a match like this. More importantly, high expectations will certainly continue to build as he carries the load, and even though it’s still quite early into the season, it’s fair to say he’s capable of such responsibility.
Andre Rawls – The New York City FC loanee will look to add his third clean sheet of the season after having collected two in recent games vs. Oklahoma City Energy FC and Tulsa Roughnecks FC. The 26-year old goalkeeper is no stranger to USL action, who also played for then-NYCFC USL affiliate Wilmington Hammerheads in 2015. With that being said, for Rawls this is more of a proving season for him in this time of his career. So far, so good, and here’s another opportunity to showcase his development.
Aodhan Quinn – A player I like to think of as an X-factor. The type of midfielder who links well with anyone on the field and provides stability in terms of playing time. He’s made four starts in four games, and is tied for most minutes played on the team with Thomas Enevoldsen and Andre Rawls. To have him play along side teammates Richard Chaplow, Christian Duke, and others in the midfield will only work to his advantage throughout the season. Currently, there’s a lot of confidence in the Orange County SC midfield that can compete with the league’s best, and Quinn will certainly play a role in that.
These three in-form players will look to exceed expectations in their first ever 405 derby at Championship Soccer Stadium, Saturday April 7 at 7 pm.
