The Galaxy II is making a strong push to make their fourth consecutive playoff appearance with their 2-1 road win against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. Ariel Lassiter’s strike plus an own goal by the home team was enough for Los Dos to secure the three points.
Los Angeles fielded seven LA Galaxy first-team players and it paid dividends. The senior team was on a bye week, therefore, affording the club to loan its players to its USL affiliate. Jack McBean, Jaime Villarreal, Raul Mendiola, Nathan Smith, Bradley Diallo, Hugo Arellano and goal scorer Lassiter helped the team earn a vital win.
With the win, Los Dos is eight points away from a playoff spot with 10 games left on the schedule. Los Angeles has picked up their game as of late, going unbeaten in four of the last five matches, winning two of the last three.
Eight of their last 10 opponents are currently in the playoff picture making the Galaxy II’s last gasp push increasingly difficult. Their current form should be encouraging for head coach Mike Muñoz’s club especially if they can continue to use more first-team players.
As the LA Galaxy continue to regain a healthy squad, perhaps they can allow a few players to head down to help Los Dos make the playoffs. Galaxy II utilized a very experienced back line against Colorado which helped solidify the defense.
Justin Dhillon (6) and Adrian Vera (5), both did not play, lead the team in scoring while Ethan Zubak is the team’s best passer with three assists. Adding more creative attacking options like seldom used first-teamers Raul Mendiola, Jack McBean and Jaime Villarreal could give Los Dos a more potent attack.
Galaxy II will remain on the road this weekend as they will take on 14th place Vancouver Whitecaps 2, who they defeated in the season opener. This could be an excellent opportunity for Los Dos to get three more points in their playoff quest.
