The LA Galaxy came to terms with the two players still left from last year’s roster who weren’t on contract with the team. The Galaxy signed defender Ashley Cole to a one year deal and midfielder Baggio Husidic to a one year deal as well.
Ashley Cole has made 55 appearances with the club since signing in January of 2016. The 37-year-old Cole has won many honors as an elite defender in the English Premier League having won four Premier League titles, seven FA Cups, and a UEFA Champions League title in his time with England’s Arsenal and Chelsea.

After playing in England Cole moved to Serie A with Italian club Roma where he played for two seasons before coming to Los Angeles. In his first season with Galaxy, Cole was part of a defensive corp that lead the Galaxy to being the second best defensive club in the MLS.
Last year Cole remained a steady presence playing 29 games for the club, a difficult season where the Galaxy record was their worst in team history.
The club commented on the signing saying:
“We are very excited that Ashley will be returning for us in 2018. He’s been a tremendous leader for our club,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid. “He’s shown he can be successful in this league and we’re confident that will continue in the season ahead.”
Baggio Husidic will return for his fifth season with the LA Galaxy. The 30-year-old midfielder has played in 97 games since signing with the club in 2014 the same year he helped the team lift their league record fifth MLS Cup.
Husidic, an MLS veteran played three seasons with the Chicago Fire before going to the premier Swedish league and playing with Hammarby for two seasons before coming to the LA Galaxy. In his time with the Galaxy, Husidic has scored nine goals and assisted on 11 goals.

The 2017 season was a difficult year for Husidic as he only played 10 games before being lost for the season due to a broken left fibula suffered during a game against Minnesota United FC.
The team commented on the signing saying:
“Baggio has shown that he’s a very reliable and dependable option for us in the midfield,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid. “He has more MLS experience than many players on our roster and we’re happy to have him back.”
The Galaxy still have time to continue to round out their roster as they get set for their season opener on March 4. The signing of Husidic and Cole brings in a veteran presence to a team that is trying to transition from a terrible 2017, and back into a title contender in 2018.
